If you ever have a spare 6 minutes and 5 seconds, then look this way.
Directed by Joseph Kahn, the music video for Knights of Cydonia (a single from Muse’s fourth studio album Black Holes and Revelations) is one of the most underrated videos out there.
I may be slightly biased as I am already a huge Muse fan, but this video stands out as one of my all-time favorites. What I loved most about this video is that it completely matched what I imagined when I first heard the song alone: a sort of futuristic, Wild West, post-apocalyptic mini-movie with a retro feel (obviously).
The video went on to win the Los Angeles Film Festival Award. Kahn’s creative talents are highly sought-after having worked with hundreds of artists, his most notable works including Eminem’s Without Me and Womanizer by Britney Spears.
Most importantly, the video is fun and matches the same energy as the song. It’s got a moustache, robot, unicorn, laser-gun fight and kung fu described by Kahn as ‘Chuck Norris with syphilis’. If I haven’t sold it to you now, I never will.
In a nutshell: a refreshing piece of work that is well worth a watch.
